New Birth Jerusalem Church of God in Christ was established in August 1982, founded by Dr. Robert L. Cook. The church’s first meeting was conducted at 2616 Shaub Ct. Burchwood Estates, in Clarksville, Tennessee. The first church roll was composed of nine (9) members, which included Pastor Cook and his wife, Missionary Anna M. Cook.

Land was donated by Alvin and Audrey Vertrees, of 244 Burch Road, at which time construction commenced in 1983. After the completion of the building, the saints marched in for the dedicatory service in June 1985. The State Bishop, Audley King, dedicated the church and congratulated Pastor Cook for being a man of faith, love, vision and dedication. Upon this Holy faith, love and vision, New Birth Jerusalem grew in grace.

New Birth Jerusalem has experienced many fruitful years since its founder, Dr. Robert L. Cook, conducted its first meeting. The church had began offering outreach ministerial programs, such as the W. L. Porter Training Institute and continues to broadcast weekly Sunday morning Radio Broadcast Ministry on 1370 WJMR AM (The New Eagle) at 8:00 A.M.. The church has an active role in this community as well as the city of Clarksville.

The Rhema Word of God was given to Pastor Cook and the NBJ COGIC family from Prophet Paul Dade of Atlanta, GA., which hence the changing of the church name. In April of 2001, Pastor Cook changed the church name in obedience to God to its new name “Greater New Birth Jerusalem” to reflect the new great things God had begun in this church body.

The journey of our beloved founder, Dr. Robert L. Cook came to an end on Wednesday, April 30, 2003, when he was called home to glory. Shortly after, Greater New Birth Jerusalem became a non-denomination ministry. This move was set in motion by our late founder and completed by our present Pastor, Elder Robert L. Gaines. Our co-founder, Missionary Anna M. Cook became the ministry’s Overseer. Together, Pastor Gaines and Lady Cook established the church’s first Board of Directors. 

The goal of Greater New Birth Jerusalem Ministries is to love and serve God. The church shows God’s love by reaching out to lost souls and by providing the necessary support that will enable them to maintain a Christian relationship through all aspects of their lives. We continue to follow the foundation that was laid by our beloved Pastor Dr. Cook, as we also import the visions God has given to Pastor Gaines. Together, the combination allows us to “Share the Word, Shine the Light, Break the Bonds and Share God’s Love!”
